Day 47
February 17, 2017I had technically better photos today, but this one begins to approach the feel of the street life in Cartagena.
I had technically better photos today, but this one begins to approach the feel of the street life in Cartagena.
I definitely did not almost lose my passport before heading to the airport, and I definitely did not definitely forget my camera battery charger. Nope, smooth sailing this trip.
My motorcycle lives backed right up against this makeshift taco joint. I don’t know what language it is, but Vax surely means Heaven.
Also, a heads up. I’m traveling to Colombia tomorrow, so while I will most assuredly be shooting every day, I may not post every day.
I hear sunrises produce the best light, but this week I’m really finding dusk is my best friend. And it has nothing at all to do with the fact that I can’t fathom waking up early enough to see the sun rise up.
The closer I got to home, the more crowded the streets were with orange jerseys. Sports happened, and I think the good guys won.
I don’t see Queens too often, and when I do, it’s usually just looking at these tracks.
The day after a snow is a mix of good and bad. The snow is disgusting and dirty, BUT, the streets are drenched and always amplify the ample colorful lighting in the world around.
Another blizzard, another family stacked on a rapidly speeding sled.
Took advantage of surprise 60 degree weather to take the new motorcycle out. While winding through the streets of Brooklyn, I came across this incredible old sign and had to turn around.
It’s a nice gloomy night for a stroll through the neighborhood.
One of my favorite things about street photography is the serendipity of catching a shared glance across time, space, and dimension.
Spare parts.
It took me a long, long time to mobilize today, which laid the groundwork for a perfectly lazy day for once. Awaiting my day’s taco, I was really delighted to see so much life moving at so many different speeds all through this one window.
The dark time has begun. I’m forgetting to bring my camera out! And I’m resorting to posting food photos.
These are the colors and angles of the new Gotham Market in Brooklyn.
I bought a new motorcycle today.
First month of daily posts down! With the exception of the day my primary camera was stolen, I managed to take and post a photo every day, and I think I’m mostly happy with the results. I tried to focus on emboldening my street photography, but the colder months make that a bit difficult, and I’ll be mindful and keep trying to improve in that regard.
My favorite shots this month have been Days 5, 6, 9, 14, 19, 23 and 30.
The slightest snowfall guarantees sleds piled high with a stack of humans young and old in Fort Greene Park.
Tonight’s soundtrack brought to me by the intoxicating Fleur Seule at Bathtub Gin.
20,000 human beings in one location, unified behind a single message.
First time in four years that I haven’t been part of a Fuakata choreography, and Just as it was allowed to have an orange shirt.
Today I found all the colors in one place. All the colors.
Today was a good day. Weirdly, though, while I was out in the world more than usual, I kept forgetting my camera, so I had very, very few opportunities to shoot.
Luckily, the short walk home with two grilled cheese sandwiches in one hand (not Both for me, give me some credit), I was able to take one moderately interesting shot.
I kind of enjoy the peculiar weight of this photo.
Organized within the last 24 hours in response to our inept new president’s systemic bigotry, the Emergency Rally for Muslim and Immigrant Rights was conceived, organized, and well executed. According to the Facebook event’s numbers, thousands were there, and the crowd was indeed dense, intense, and inspired. They organized speakers from both within the elected ranks of the government as well as activists and community organizers. The tone was harsh towards our shamefully fearful new federal government, and overwhelmingly positive towards our sanctuary city and the immigrants within it.
All in all, an energizing rally, and this is just the beginning.
It was hard to leave the apartment today. Finally, the chance to climb at 10pm became too much to resist. Cesar’s Empanadas is an all-too-regular stop on the way home, on the way out, an excuse to go to Target, and really an excuse to get out into the world in its own right. Fantastic, quick, cheap food.
