Day 121
May 4, 2017We’re so small when facing the things we build.
We’re so small when facing the things we build.
Today, there was a rainbow trapped in a fountain. (Better that than those “I’m going to jump over a bunch of people if you all give us your money” street performers.)
Today was a whirlwind of activity. Spent the day rushing, talking, thinking, debating, drinking. Through all that, though, totally forgot to take out the camera.
Instead, here’s one from a short time ago. I’ve made myself hungry just looking at it.
I don’t go to BRIC nearly enough, even though it is a very short two blocks from my apartment. Today, I saw Beyond Sacred: Voices of Muslim Identity, a piece weaving together stories of five vibrantly different people and absolutely worth going to see.
Keeping the system up and running.
All I’ve needed today, while more or less trapped in Manhattan, has been a plug and a good cup of coffee. This was somehow a very, very difficult combination to find.
Meanwhile, this man has a car and a cloth and he’s off to the races. I sometimes think it would be a lot of occasional fun to drive a cab for a while.
Slowly recovering from this annoying sickness, I was happy to get out of the apartment for a few minutes today. Mugginess aside, springtime in Fort Greene really is quite lovely.
I spent the entire day traveling. 5am out the door, canceled flights and massive delays in Cleveland, finally home at 10pm. Miserably sick the entire time. As such, I didn’t dig my camera out to document the boring mayhem.
Instead, here’s another photo of Ilanna, taken only days earlier at Wild Detectives in Dallas. She came down for the funeral, and was an incredible support and a welcome, comforting presence for me, my dad, and really the rest of the family.
I grew up looking at most of these photos when I visited my grandparents’ house in Corpus Christi. It’s really nice seeing them again up closer to home.
Trips back to Texas always guarantee that I’ll eat way too much food. Excellent food, but too much. Every time. Might explode.
Though under dire circumstances, it was nice seeing so much family in one place.
Ridiculously cute niece is ridiculously cute.
Emergency trip to Texas. The act of traveling isn’t often fun, and I almost Never end up in a window seat, but the view was quite nice!
Today was not a good day.
No photo taken on this stressful day. Instead, here’s a surprise I found on my camera after leaving it sitting on the table at the bar and setting my attention elsewhere.
What an adventure today. After the necessary coffee run, we ended up in Flushing for some dumplings. Saw this chap taking it very, very easy. Then, motorcycle ride up through Long Island, where I was flagged down by a few people and a motorcycle. Poor guy had no license and his angry girlfriend ensured that the cop very sternly demand he not ride it Any More. So I hopped on this stranger’s sports bike and drove it to a house a mile or two away. Then drank some incredible beer at Garvies Point Brewery out beyond Oyster Bay. And on the way home, to escape a sudden downpour, ducked into the closed Sea Cliff Bistro, run by the nicest man in New York, named Walt. He offered us a roof and, eventually, some of his family’s easter dinner. Just don’t call them. They don’t have a phone and the number listed goes to another bistro altogether. It’s all very confusing.
Then I got home and fell asleep by 8pm.
It’s a short train from Sofia to Bucharest.
It’s finally that time of year again when salsa dancing spills out into the streets, when you get to meet new friends and reconnect with old. I do like springtime.
Very expensive tiles decorate the city.
Turns out it’s very hard to edit an all red scene. A new regular show at The Delancey–House of Sin: Putting on the Blitz–is burlesquey good times.
“Not American Terrorist! American Music!” he screamed angrily for a moment.
The idea, apparently, is that by the end of this year, you’ll be able to construct a 100% perfect 3d model of 300 Ashland just by the photos of it that I post here.
There is no better way to start a beautiful spring day than with a visit to the Hot Dog King of Brooklyn.
Today’s motorcycle ride was tough going for a while. Because New Jersey. And because cold and wind. BUT, once we made the decision to seek out a brewery, it was as if the skies opened up, the wind calmed down, and the streets became beautifully twisty.
I’ve never been to a Nerd Nite before, and after this experience, I hope to make it to more! This neuroscience talk was fine, but really, the best part was the epic history of the rise and fall and rise of tournament-level Super Smash Bros Melee.
